Online Services

Let us help bridge the distance to a caring and supportive team, ask about virtual therapy!

The BACA Clinic also offers our specialized evidence-based eating disorder treatment through more accessible options, including online therapy via video chat. After a brief telephone screening, eligible clients will have an orientation meeting to assess the severity of their eating disorder and their specific needs. We will discuss a potential treatment plan and then proceed with recommending and scheduling additional services, including having you seen by your local doctor for a physical exam and bloodwork.

Teletherapy

Most of our in-person services are now also offered online via video conferencing platforms. This includes individual follow-ups such as psychotherapy with experienced psychologists or psychotherapists, nutritional counseling with registered dieticians, and family and couples therapy all provided through our telehealth platform. The same procedures as in-person appointments apply, with sessions conducted remotely via video on your computer, tablet, or smartphone. This approach is ideal for those far from our clinic, allowing distance therapy to maintain regular after-care follow-ups. Teletherapy ensures access to our specialized services for those unable to come to Montreal for the full BACA experience.

Virtual Therapy Groups

In addition to individual services, we also offer various therapy groups such as a Binge Eating Group, a Psychoeducation and Skills Group for Eating Disorders, and a Caregiver Group (for the parents and/or loved ones wanting to support someone with an eating disorder) Click here for more information.

Online Meal Support

For those seeking more structure and meal-support, we provide online supervised meals tailored to each individual’s needs through customized meal plans developed by our nutritional counselors. These supervised meal sessions are essential for recovery from eating disorders as they provide a structured environment where individuals can gradually confront food-related anxiety and stress. By incorporating tolerance of distress and anxiety, meal support helps clients manage the overwhelming emotions that can arise during mealtimes, which are often triggers for eating disorder behaviors (Wilson et al., 2011). Research has shown that meal support in a supervised setting promotes both psychological and physiological recovery by improving nutritional intake, enhancing body image, and reducing eating disorder symptoms (Watson et al., 2017).
Moreover, for clients unable to attend in-person sessions, online meal support offers an innovative approach to continue this crucial aspect of treatment remotely. Studies have highlighted the efficacy of telehealth services in the treatment of eating disorders, including supervised meal support, by providing accessible and personalized care (O’Connor et al., 2020). These virtual therapy sessions enable clients to receive the same evidence-based interventions in a flexible, remote format, maintaining continuity of care and supporting recovery from a distance.
