What is binge eating?<\/h2>

[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” _builder_version=”4.16″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid” global_colors_info=”{}”]Binge eating consists of repeated episodes\u00a0of overeating. Within a limited period of time, a person ingests a quantity of food far superior to what most people would in the same circumstances. However, binge eating differs from bulimia in that there is no\u00a0regular recourse to compensatory behaviours to eliminate ingested calories.<\/p>

Also present in binge eating are\u00a0feelings of loss of control, shame, disgust, guilt and symptoms of depression. The people who suffer are generally either overweight or obese.

Binge eating symptoms<\/h2>

A. Recurring episodes of binge eating with the feeling of loss of control<\/strong><\/p>

B. These episodes are associated with at least 3 of the following criteria:<\/strong>
\u2022 Food intake is extremely fast and in quantities well above normal
\u2022 Person eats to the point of feeling an uncomfortable abdominal distension
\u2022 Eats large amounts of food without having any sensation of hunger
\u2022 Eats alone,\u00a0being embarrassed to eat such a large quantity of food
\u2022 Feels self-disgust, depression or strong guilt after binge eating episodes<\/p>

C. Bulimic behaviour\u00a0is a source\u00a0of noticeable suffering.<\/strong><\/p>

D. Bulimic behaviour occurs at least once a week over a three-month period.<\/strong><\/p>

E. This bulimic behaviour is not associated with inappropriate compensatory behaviours\u00a0and does not occur exclusively during anorexia or bulimia<\/strong>
